Component Video Cables

Component Video Cables and jacks Of the three popular video signal formats available on consumer electronics gear--Component, S-Video and Composite--Component Video, which splits the video signal up into three separate components (Y/Pb/Pr) for the highest resolution and most realistic colour rendition, is the best. These professional-grade component video cable sets, built from the finest coaxial cable and connectors available, will make the most of your system's component video signals. We offer these component video cables in an practically unlimited variety of lengths--see our order interface below. Our "standard" component video cable configuration is Belden 7710A coax (a three-conductor version of 1694A) with Canare RCA plugs, but we also offer other coaxes, and BNC connectors, as indicated below. If you're looking for a component video cable to run from a 15-pin VGA plug to three RCA or BNC plugs, visit our VGA to Component Video page.

Bundled Component Video Cables: Belden 7787A or 7710A

Any component video cable, electrically speaking, is just a set of three cables for the Y, Pb, and Pr components of the signal; but most people prefer their component video cables to come in the form of a single bundle for neatness and ease of installation. Belden 7787A and 7710A are three-cable bundled forms of two of Belden's premier line of SDI video cables, 1855A and 1694A. These cables are designed for the extreme bandwidth requirements of SDI, and are sweep-tested out to 4.5 GHz--over 100 times the bandwidth required for 1080i high-definition component video. The exceptional bandwidth of these cables depends on the tightest manufacturing tolerances in the industry, coupled with the best materials available. These cables use Belden's high-density polyethylene foam dielectric, which provides exceptional crush resistance and, through the high consistency and tiny bubble size, tight impedance tolerance. The shielding is the most effective video cable shielding available, with a Belden Duofoil shield consisting of two layers of foil applied to opposite sides of a mylar tape, coupled with a 95% coverage tinned copper braid; even quad-shielded cable does not match its performance, at any frequency. The principal difference between 7787A and 7710A is size: 7787A is smaller, at about 11mm diameter, and is dramatically more flexible. We recommend it for short runs (say, 6 metres and under) and for any application where a highly-flexible bundled cable is required. 7710A is larger, at about 19mm, and consequently offers lower attenuation (rarely an issue in home theater installations), but at a considerable sacrifice of flexibility. Unbundled Component Video Cable Alternatives: Belden 1694A or 1505F

Bundled component video cable is useful in applications where appearance and convenience of use are important, but unbundled cables--delivered as three separate cables of equal length--provide the same performance at lower cost. Unbundled component video cable is also a good choice if you'll be needing to route cable through conduit or through wall or ceiling spaces, as it is more flexible for pulling and doesn't require holes to be quite so large to accommodate it. Our two favorite unbundled cables are Belden 1694A (the unbundled version of 7710A) and 1505F (a high-flex, matte jacket cable). 1694A offers the same unbeatable performance of 7710A, with identical specs and shielding, and 1505F offers the highest performance available in a high-flex cable anywhere, with a softer jacket, smaller profile, compacted stranded center conductor, and double copper braid shield. 1505F is sweep-tested out to 3 GHz, still vastly in excess of the requirements of high-definition component video, but doesn't have quite the tight impedance tolerance of the solid-core cables like 7710A, 7787A, and 1694A. Canare RCAP RCA Plug

The Connectors: Canare RCAPs

Great coax, of course, isn't the end of the matter--either figuratively or literally. We terminate both ends of these component video cables with Canare RCAP RCA plugs, the best RCA plugs available anywhere (Need BNCs instead? See below). Canare RCAPs are all-metal-bodied connectors designed for excellent electrical contact, shielding and performance. More significantly, these plugs were designed specifically for use in 75 ohm video lines, to minimize impedance mismatch problems which arise at video signal frequencies. The contact surfaces are gold-plated--but where most connectors use no other means besides gold plating to ensure good contact, Canare RCAPs have a unique "internal pressure contact finger" system, partially visible in the photo at right. Nine gold-plated spring surfaces squeeze the jack from all sides--firmly, but without excessive force--for a perfect, mechanically solid and electrically sound contact every time. A simple side-by-side comparison of these plugs with those found on the mass-market cable brands leaves no doubt as to which is the superior connector. View Canare's description and specs for the RCAP plugs.

We hand-cut and terminate each of these component video cables ourselves, using Canare tooling, so we know they're done right and tested before they go out. These are top-performing, videophile-grade cables, but at a cost lower than many lesser cables go for in the big chain stores. As with all of our products, we offer a complete and unconditional return privilege. If for any reason--or for no reason--you're not completely, utterly satisfied, just return the cables within 30 days and we'll refund your purchase price in full.

Other Alternatives:

In addition to our standard Belden 7710A, 1694A or 1505F configurations, we can supply the following options:

Plenum-rated cable: Belden 1695A

Belden 1695A is a Teflon dielectric version of 1694A, almost identical in performance specs, but fire-rated for use in plenums. This is a much more expensive cable and provides no performance improvement--consequently we do not recommend its use unless your installation requires a plenum-rated cable.View Belden's technical specs for 1695A.

Canare BNC Connectors:

If your equipment accepts BNC plugs instead of RCA plugs, we've got you covered! Canare BNC plugs--true 75 ohm plugs of the highest quality--are available on all of the cables above, and of course we can do BNCs on both ends of the cable or BNCs at one end and RCAs at the other. When ordering below, simply select the appropriate connector combination from the drop-down box. View Canare's description and specs for these BNC plugs.

Multiple Cable Colours:

Our Belden 1694A cables are available in ten different colours, and 1505F is available in eight different colours. The option box below for cable colour controls the colour of the cable jacket only; regardless of the cable colour choice, the strain relief boots on the cables will be coded red, green and blue.

Techflex Braided Cable Jacket:

Apart from 7710A, all of our cable sets above will be delivered as three separate cables of identical length, with colour-coded boots. If you prefer cables which are grouped together in a common jacket, we also offer Techflex, a black plastic braided covering similar to a "finger trap," on component video cables up to four metres long. Techflex adds approximately £2 per metre to the cost of any cable assembly above. Note: Techflex does not provide any performance advantage; it's purely a convenience/appearance add-on.

Shipping:

All cables ship from the U.S. by International Priority Mail, with average delivery time of 6-10 business days, and may be subject to VAT and customs charges on receipt; for more detail, see our shipping/taxes and duties page.
