Shipping and Customs

Our Shipping Policy:

Subject to the following exceptions, all orders placed on this UK site and paid for in GBP will be shipped from the United States, by International Priority Mail, to any destination in the world. International Priority Mail is handled in the U.S. by the United States Postal Service and in most other countries by the official postal authorities. International Priority Mail takes, on average, about 6 to 10 business days (excluding weekends and holidays) to arrive, but can occasionally be delayed by customs processing. Shipments are trackable, to most locations, at usps.com, and we will e-mail you the tracking number when we ship.

Exceptions:

There are just three exceptions to our International Priority Mail shipment promise:
  • First, orders which consist only of adapters and connectors, and which do not contain any cable, may at our option be shipped by International First Class Mail. International First Class Mail is similar to International Priority Mail in speed, but usually is not trackable.
  • Second, we will not ship an order by International Priority Mail if the size or weight of the package is too large for the size or weight limits imposed by the postal regulations of the destination country. This is rare, as most countries allow packages up to 20 or 30 kg. and, of course, we can ship in multiple packages; but a very long and heavy cable could exceed those weight limits. In such a case, we will contact you with other shipping options.
  • Third, there are a handful of countries which do not have an agreement with the U.S. to accept International Priority Mail. In such cases, we will contact you with shipping options.

Customs Treatment:

Customs treatment of parcels from the United States varies, of course, from one country to another and we are not familiar with customs regulations everywhere. We offer the following information as our best understanding of current customs practice.

For shipments to the UK, it is our understanding that 17.5% VAT is applicable to the value of the goods, and that 3.7% import duty is applicable to most or all of the items we sell. A flat customs clearance fee is ordinarily added to the VAT and duties payable. If, as we currently believe to be the case, International Priority Mail will be delivered by the Royal Mail (the mail classes were recently revised, and we believe but cannot be sure that this is so), the flat fee ordinarily is £4. If the deliveries are handled by ParcelForce (which we believe will NOT be the case), then the flat fee ordinarily is £14. Packages under £18 are exempt from all of these charges; please do not ask us to falsely mark the value of a shipment, as we are unable to do so. Anecdotal reports from customers suggest to us that it is not uncommon for parcels which ought to have been taxed to arrive tax-free; however, of course, one cannot rely on such events and should anticipate paying customs charges.

In other EU countries, customs treatment is similar, with VAT, duty and a flat fee being applied to parcels over some threshold value; we do not presently know how consistent those rates and fees are from country to country and would advise, if you have a question on this subject, contacting your customs service or postal authorities.

Outside of the EU, we do not have sufficient experience with customs handling to be able to render any advice.
